Financial Technology (FinTech)

FinTech or Financial Technology is an emerging area of research and application that makes use of innovative technologies and analytics for advanced financial services. This certificate will facilitate student understanding of disruptive technologies in financial services, from traditional banking to mobile payments to blockchains.
 

Doctoral students must earn a grade of “B” or higher in the following 4 courses (12 credits) to earn this certificate:

EIN6357 Advanced Engineering Economy
  • Course Description: Economic analysis of capital expenditure decisions. Financial mathematics and microeconomics. Decision under risk and uncertainty. Game theory and utility theory. This is a 3 credit hour course.
 

FIN7938 Empirical Asset Pricing, Machine Learning, and AI
  • Course Description: Analysis of current research topics. Paper presentation and critiques by doctoral students, faculty, and visiting scholars. This is a 2 credit hour course.
 

ESI6341 Introduction to Stochastic Optimization
  • Course Description: Intro to Stochastic Optimization is intended as a first introductory course for graduate students in fields such as: engineering, operations research, statistics, mathematics, and finance. This is a 3 credit hour course.
 

FIN7809 Investments
  • Course Description: Theory and empirical analyses of security investment decisions in a world of risk with both perfect and imperfect markets. This is a 4 credit hour course.
