GAINESVILLE, FL:  If you want to go into business for yourself, you need a plan, or plans — a business plan, marketing plan, business model, funding model, etc. James Smith (BS IE 1963) of Smith Business Advisors covered these items in detail when addressing students in the Sales Engineering Seminar on Tuesday, November 27.

“Before you hang your shingle up, if you are serious about being an entrepreneur, put as much time and effort as needed into the plan,” he urged students.

But he also had a personal message with four keys to success: (1) Get your PE license; (2) Keep a database of everyone you meet; (3) Build a good personal financial plan early; and (4) Take time in selecting your life partner. He should know, as his wife is his business partner.
