Muir Tells Alumni to Seek a Good Match

William Muir, Jr. delivers a lecture

Gainesville, FL: ISE alumnus William Muir, Jr. (BS ISE 1992), Executive Vice President, Chief Executive Officer, Global Manufacturing Services at Jabil in St. Petersburg, closed the Career Development Symposium hosted by the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University Hilton on Saturday, February 4 with the final keynote speech.  Muir, who presides over roughly $14 billion in revenues and nearly 70,000 employees in his role, told attendees to align themselves with companies that are growing — pointing to Jabil’s 25% annually compounded growth rate since the early 1990s — as it provides more opportunities for career development.  “Tying yourself to corporations that are growing creates successful opportunities,” he said.  Muir, who graduated with joint BS and MBA degrees from UF in 1992, has been with Jabil since graduation, starting as a Quality Engineer.  He was promoted to his current position in 2007 after spending significant time in both Shanghai and Singapore.
