Roberts (BS 1968) Recollects Career as an Early SE.

Gainesville, FL (November, 2010): Tom Roberts (BS SE 1968) returned to campus to address graduating seniors with some tips for career success. He was the second graduate of the Systems Engineering undergraduate program that was launched in 1965. Upon graduation, he went on to work for the National Security Agency in Fort Meade, Maryland and then in Sunnyvale, California working in the area of signal processing — something he was introduced to as a morse code operator for the Army before attending college. As the term “Systems Engineer” was new to the government, he was labeled as a “General Engineer” for years, before leaving for the private sector. He stressed the importance of communication, especially written, with the students when seeking to further their careers.
