Vernon Kelly (BIE ’63) to Deliver Gregory Lecture on Tuesday, April 24

GAINESVILLE,  FL: Vernon Kelly, former General Manager and President of the TOUR’s Real Estate Company, PGA TOUR Golf Course Properties Inc., will be delivering a seminar entitled, “Achieving Your Dreams Through Engineering” on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. in the Reitz Union, rooms 361 – 363.  The presentation will be followed by a reception from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. After graduating with BSIE and BSME degrees from UF, Mr. Kelly began his career as a Mechanical Contractor with a family- owned firm. He then became General Manager of a land development company in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.  In 1978, Commissioner Deane Beman decided to build the first Tournament Players Club and relocated PGA TOUR headquarters to Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.  Mr. Kelly was initially hired as Project Manager but when the golf course opened, he was promoted to General Manager and President of the TOUR’s Real Estate Company, PGA TOUR Golf Course Properties, Inc.  In this position, Mr. Kelly was responsible for all of the TOUR’s real estate ventures which included 36 Tournament  Players Clubs in the U.S., Japan, China and Thailand and the World Golf Hall of Fame. Under his leadership, the TOUR grew from four employees to over 3600.  Mr. Kelly retired from his full-time position in 2006, but still serves as a consultant to the TOUR.
