Abstract: Human Factor in Transportation Safety
My goal is to bring education to society. The more I share my knowledge, the more I am able to prepare students to be future industry professional leaders and engineering researchers. Whether teaching students or writing articles, I see myself as a bridge between research and the practice. In this seminar, I will go over my established teaching philosophy which has two aims. My first aim is to create teaching material in such a way that it can engage every student in the class. For example, I will design project-based courses that are based around opportunities for students to personalize their assignments. My second aim is centered around critical thinking skills. Critical thinking is a basic key skill for engineers and researchers.
In this seminar, I will also talk about my research experience including human factors (human-computer interaction, user experience, and human factors in transportation safety), and statistical methods (design of experiments, multivariate analysis, and quality control). My research goals are to explore and develop systems that help users to interact with systems more effectively and efficiently. Since driving has become an essential activity in the modern lifestyle, my focus is on systems that are designed to assist human to do this task. In this seminar, I will share my finding of understanding public perception of full driving automation, and designing external interface for full and high driving automation to communicate with pedestrians, and improving human performance with in-vehicle technology.
