Read (BS ’73) Shares Lessons with Students

William “Bill” G. Read, III speaks with students in a classroom

GAINESVILLE, FL:  William “Bill” G. Read, III (BS SE 1973) shared insights from his 30-year career with IBM with students in the Sales Engineering Seminar on Tuesday, March 20.  After a short stint in the Navy, he joined IBM, wanting to take on a role as a systems engineer, only to find that the opening was for a sales engineer.  Ten minutes into the training, he knew it was a life for him.  “Everyone gets dealt a different hand,” he told the students.  “Life is like a wheel.  If you keep it balanced, you will have a smooth ride.”  He also stressed that students should seek out mentors and be ready to “learn to learn,” as it is a constant in life.
