GAINESVILLE, FL: Jessica Hinkle (BS ISE 2009) returned to campus to address students in the Introduction to ISE course on March 26, 2012. She is currently a Manufacturing Engineering II for Harris Corporation in Melbourne, Florida, having joined the company upon graduation. She chose Harris over a number of other career options due to their flexible work schedule and opportunities to grow. She is now in her first supervisory role, which she asserts is more of a systems engineering, rather than manufacturing, role. She stressed the importance of networking with classmates and professors, getting involved (she was President of IIE), and the importance of internships, as she worked with Intel, General Electric and ExxonMobil while a student. But her first position was with Carrabba’s Italian Grill. “Don’t discredit those service industry jobs,” she said. “I really had to become customer oriented and I was running a little system.”
