University of Florida department of industrial and systems engineering Distinguished Professor Panos Pardalos has achieved the distinction of being one of the most referenced researchers in his field. Pardalos, who also serves as director of the Center of Applied Optimization, is one of the top 150 researchers catalogued by Guide2Research on its Top H-Index for Computer Science and Electronics.

Pardalos is also the Paul and Heidi Brown Preeminent Professor of industrial and systems engineering.

“The distinction not only characterizes the quality of work, but also its popularity and use,” Pardalos said. “Many of my publications are supported by the issue of patents which have been used for start-up companies.”

One example of Pardalos’ more popular works is an algorithm than can be used to find a maximum clique in a large network. It has been applied to research in “biomedicine, drug design, social networks, cryptography and telecommunications,” Pardalos said.
