Assistant Professor in Industrial & Systems Engineering at the University of Florida
Ph.D., Columbia University, 2019
Dr. Xu Sun is an Assistant Professor at the University of Florida and currently leads the Data Informatics of Systems Improvement and Design Laboratory in the Industrial and Systems Engineering Department. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on stochastic models, decision theory, and stochastic optimization. His research focuses on modeling, analysis, and control of dynamical systems, with applications to call center optimization, healthcare operations management, inventory control, dynamic pricing, and energy systems. His research findings were published in top academic journals, including Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, Operations Research, Mathematics of Operations Research, Naval Research Logistics, and so on. He was a finalist in the Best Student Paper Competition in the INFORMS Finance Section in 2017 and is a recent recipient of the Travel Award from the Institute for Mathematics and its Applications. Dr. Sun obtained his doctoral degree from Columbia University, where he had the pleasure of working with and being advised by Ward Whitt. He holds two master’s degrees—one in statistics and one in engineering management.
Students (undergraduate and graduate) who are genuinely interested in applying stochastic modeling and optimization techniques to interesting real-world problems are encouraged to contact Dr. Sun.
