Abstract:Data Analysis and Optimization in Communication and Social Networks

Complex networks arise in a variety of problem domains, including information exchange networks, social networks, and many others. In the context of communication and social networks, we will discuss one of the key drivers behind opinion formation in social media (although the considered approaches have applications in various other types of information exchange networks): diffusion-driven information transfer. We will consider optimization-based approaches to influence maximization in a social network, specifically, optimal choice of the timing of seed activation under a given budget and over a given time horizon. We will also address the problem of prediction of information diffusion using deep neural networks. Next, we will discuss optimization methods for designing secure communication strategies for wireless sensor networks (WSNs). Due to the fact that WSNs are often deployed in volatile operational environments, in which nodes may be physically or virtually captured, it is important to develop communication encryption strategies that are resilient in such settings.
