Governor’s Proposed Budget Directly Invests in UF

Rick Scott delivers a speech

TALLAHASSEE, FL:  Governor Rick Scott released his budget plans this past week and it has been characterized as “education friendly” with increased funding for K-12 schools and teachers, as well as the state university system.  In addition to the increase in funding, Scott has designated a $15 million investment directly in UF.  Provost Glover called the investment “significant,” stating that although the process is early, the funds will be directly towards the hiring of 100 to 125 new faculty members.  The Governor has also targeted investments in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) throughout the state, of which UF hopes to receive funds for a new chemistry building.  These funds, expected to total $100 million, will be made available to multiple schools and will require matching funds to be allocated.
