ORLANDO, FL:  The proposed plan from the state task force on education is drawing criticism from many sources, as is shown by an editorial in the Orlando Sentinel.  The task force’s proposal suggests that tuition for STEM degrees should be lower to attract more students, while tuition for non-STEM degrees would potentially be raised.  This is in direct opposition to Dr. Machen’s request last year to raise tuition for STEM degrees, citing increased demand in these fields, as well as potentially higher salaries for graduates in these fields.
