Distinguished Panel Tackles Innovation and Leadership.

Gainesville, FL (February, 2011): Tom Hunter, former President of Sandia National Laboratories, moderated a panel consisting of Norman Augustine, former CEO of Lockheed Martin, Michael Lewis, Senior Vice President of Energy Delivery at Progress Energy, Mikel Miller, Chief Scientist of the Munitions Directorate of the United States Air Force at Eglin Air Force Base, Win Phillips, Vice President of Research at the University of Florida, and Deepika Singh, Founder and President of Sinmat, Inc., The panel offered a myriad of ideas on how to foster innovation and fortify American competitiveness in technology. The ideas included increased public-private partnerships and encouraging research ideas to move to products. Singh noted that “we need more leaders to take these products and create jobs. It’s not good enough to write a paper or get a patent.” Hunter noted that “no challenge is more urgent, no call more clear.” Lt. Governor Jennifer Carroll said a few words before the panel was introduced,noting that the incubator being developed on campus was directly in line with the new administration’s goal of creating more jobs in Florida.
