Workshop Outline

The emphasis of the workshop will be on application of risk management methodologies across engineering domains. Several talks will focus on the application and development of the risk quadrangle concept, as well as new risk measures associated with this concept. For instance, we will consider advanced statistics applications such as linear regression estimation of Conditional Value-at-Risk, Probability of Exceedance, and Buffered Probability of Exceedance.

Speakers

We will have an exciting set of distinguished speakers at the workshop, including:

-Prof. R. Tyrrel Rockafellar (University of Washington and University of Florida)
-Prof. Matthias Heinkenschloss (Rice University)
-Prof. Gianluca Iaccarino (Stanford University)
-Prof. Stan Uryasev (University of Florida)

Registration Fee & Meal Accommodations

Thanks to sponsorship from the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering and the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at UF, we will not be charging any registration or participation fee. In addition, we will be providing boxed lunches for speakers of the workshop. Also, for speakers, faculty, and sponsors we will have a dinner reception on Monday, Oct 16th at 6:30pm.

Transportation to Gainesville

We recommend to take direct flights to  Jacksonville,  Orlando  or  Tampa airports and rent a car to drive to Gainesville (about 2 hours of driving). You can fly directly to  Gainesville’s Regional Airport (GNV).  The connecting cities to GNV are Atlanta on Delta, Charlotte on U.S. Airways, Miami on American Eagle, and Tampa, Orlando, and Fort Lauderdale on United Airlines. However, you may experience delays at the connecting airports (especially in Atlanta).

Hotels

Hotel should be booked as soon as possible to get the University of Florida rate (please specify that you are visiting University of Florida, you don’t need to provide any codes for reservation). We suggest the following three hotels:

  • The Holiday Inn Gainesville – University Center (10 minutes walking distance to Reitz Union), $110/night, (352) 376-1661;
