ISE now requires courses indicated with highlighting
ISE undergraduates have the opportunity to acquire a minor in another department by taking relatively
few extra courses. The list below shows some minors of possible interest related to ISE. With the approval
of their advisors, students may receive technical elective credit for courses required in a minor.

This minor is designed to prepare students for careers as actuaries. The required courses cover the
material for the beginning examinations and VEE credits leading to an associateship in the major national
actuarial societies. A minimum of 12 hours must be completed at UF. All 41 credits must be completed
with grades of C or better (no S grades). VEE credits require a grade of B or better in the designated
courses.

This minor, administered by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, is designed for
engineering students who want additional knowledge in electrical engineering.
To be admitted to the minor, students are expected to meet the admission requirements of the Department
of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Students pursuing the BSEE or BSCEN degree are not eligible
for this minor.
The minor requires the completion of 15 credit hours of EEL-prefixed courses at UF with a grade of
C or better. EEL 3003 and 3111C will not both count toward the requirements for the minor. At least
one course must be at the 4000 level.
Minor in Materials Science and Engineering (http://www.mse.ufl.edu)
This minor is offered by the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and is designed for engineering
and science students with interests in materials science and engineering.
Materials concerns are critical to engineering design and analysis and new materials are needed for
microelectronic packages, biomedical applications, super-conducting films, tool bits, cutting tools,
construction, fuel-efficient engines and other industrial and scientific applications. This minor provides
the academic background to understand materials design, selection and processing.
Students are required to complete a minimum of 15 credit hours of materials-related
courses that complement their degree programs. Advisers are also available in Rhines
Hall, Room 108.
