Undergraduate Minors
ISE undergraduates have the opportunity to broaden their education and make themselves more marketable to a field of interest by taking a minor in another department.
There are over 100 minors available to undergraduate students at the University of Florida.
With the approval of the undergraduate coordinator, students may receive technical elective credit for courses required in a minor.
Please note minors are entirely administered by other departments, and they are the ones to contact for more information. The list below highlights a number of minors of possible interest to ISE majors.
Note that a number of minors require coursework that is required by ISE majors.
Only the remaining coursework is required to complete the minor, along with the application form.

Business Administration
The business administration minor provides non-business undergraduates with an overview of the major functional elements of business.
Computer and Information Science and Engineering
This minor, administered by the Department of Computer and Information Science and Engineering,
provides the academic background in the application of computers to scientific and engineering problems and prepares students for graduate study in computer-related disciplines.
Electrical Engineering
This minor, administered by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, is designed for engineering students who want additional knowledge in electrical engineering.
Leadership
The interdisciplinary minor in leadership, in conjunction with the successful completion of the degree program, provides students an opportunity to develop fundamental skills and knowledge necessary to assume leadership,
supervisory or management positions in private companies and nonprofit organizations. Because the minor is interdisciplinary, it will draw on the expertise of faculty and staff in colleges across campus,
which may include Agricultural and Life Sciences, Business Administration, Health and Human Performance, Journalism and Communications, and Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Materials Science and Engineering
This minor is designed for engineering and science students with interests in materials science and engineering.
Materials concerns are critical to engineering design and analysis and new materials are needed for microelectronic packages, biomedical applications, super-conducting films, tool bits, cutting tools,
construction, fuel-efficient engines and other industrial and scientific applications. This minor provides the academic background to understand materials design, selection and processing.
Students are required to complete a minimum of 15 credit hours of materials-related courses that complement their degree programs. Advisers are also available in 108 Rhines Hall.
Mathematics
The minor in mathematics is open to all students who are not majoring in mathematics.
Nuclear and Radiological Engineering
This minor is for those interested in nuclear engineering and requires at least 16 hours of coursework.
Packaging Science
This minor provides a basic understanding of packaging and incorporates useful tools for commerce with courses in real-world issues facing the packaging industry.
This minor will help students gain employment in the packaging industry.
Physics
The minor in physics consists of the complete sequence in general physics.
Sales Engineering
Graduates with this minor are regarded highly by recruiters for industries seeking sales engineering staff. The minor provides the academic background for careers in sales, managerial and entrepreneurial pursuits. Graduates are more effective communicators. They are trained to promote and market new technologies and related products.
The curriculum enhances the engineering discipline with courses in communications, business, management and accounting. There is a core requirement of seven to eight hours, a communication skills elective requirement of three hours and a management skills elective requirement of six to eight hours.
This minor is administered by the ISE department.
Statistics
This minor requires a minimum of five 4000-level statistics courses. Of these, no more than three hours can be transfer credits.
Sustainability Studies
Sustainability is most commonly defined as meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It is characterized by three overarching concerns: maintaining ecological and environmental health; creating economic welfare; and ensuring social justice. The aim of the Minor in Sustainability Studies is to help students understand the ways in which these three concerns are interrelated and to explore how they best can be pursued at local, national, and global scales.
The Minor is thoroughly interdisciplinary, benefiting from the teaching and research of faculty from multiple departments and colleges. It is explicitly designed to complement any major area of study.
Urban and Regional Planning
Society's demands on the natural environment continue to increase as communities grow to meet population demands. Planning addresses the interface between the social, environmental and economic dimensions of communities and regions. Never before has the need to shape visions and guide community outcomes been greater.
The minor in urban and regional planning introduces students to the challenging and vital aspects of creating, improving and sustaining communities and regions.
