Professor and Graduate Coordinator, Industrial & Systems Engineering

Dr. Smith’s research interests include combinatorial optimization, especially mathematical programming and dynamic programming. He is a recipient of a Young Investigator Award funded by the Office of Naval Research, and has also been funded on grants from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research.

 

From 2000 to 2005, Dr. Smith was an Assistant Professor at the University of Arizona, and spent the summer of 2003 working at the National Security Agency (NSA). His role with the NSA enabled him to consult on several problems of interest in improving national security – a line of research that has continued in the years since then. Dr. Smith has also worked on projects in conjunction with AMD, Intel, Lockheed-Martin, and the Federal Aviation Administration, in addition to his government-sponsored research.

Dr. Clarke has taught in graduate schools of business, economics, and engineering in Asia, the Caribbean, and the United States, including American University, The University of Florida, Florida International University, Florida Atlantic University, Fudan University, The Ibero-American University, The University of Technology, and in the University of North Carolina System. Over the years she has also worked professionally as a manager, consultant, scientist, or engineer in companies such as Michelin Tire Corp., Science Museums of Charlotte, IBM, Duke Energy, Rexham/Bowater, Broadway & Seymour, First Union Corp., and others.

Her research publications have appeared in The Academy of Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies, Academy of Management Executive, The International Journal of Human Resources Management, Journal of International Entrepreneurship, and The Journal of Eastern European Studies, among others.

Associate Professor, Industrial and Systems Engineering

Ph.D., Georgia Institute of Technology 2002; B. S. Applied Mathematics Engineering (Summa Cum Laude), Université Catholique de Louvain (Belgium).

Dr. Richard’s research focuses on the design and application of methods for the global solution of mixed integer linear and nonlinear optimization problems. On the theoretical side, Dr. Richard has designed new cutting planes and formulation improvement procedures for these problems. On the application side, Dr. Richard has developed models and solutions for infrastructure security, radiation therapy and railroad operations. He is the recipient of a CAREER Award from the National Science Foundation. Dr. Richard has taught a large array of Operations Research classes, mostly in the array of optimization. Before Joining the University of Florida faculty, Dr. Richard was an Assistant Professor at Purdue from 2002 to 2008.

Honors and Awards: Sigma Xi Best Dissertation Award at Georgia Institute of Technology (2003), NSF CAREER award (2004), Alan B. Pritsker Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award at the School of Industrial Engineering Purdue (2007 and 2008), James H. Greene Graduate Educator Award at the School of Industrial Engineering at Purdue (2005 and 2007), IIE Transactions Best Application Paper Award in 2008.

Associate Professor of Accounting (KPMG Term Professor)

PhD, University of Arizona, 1989; JD (Cum Laude), University of Florida 2006; MBA, Baylor University, 1985; BSc (First Class Honors), University of Ghana, 1982; CFE, Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, 1996; Florida Bar (admitted 2006).

Professor Asare’s research, which focuses on understanding and improving auditors’ decisions, has appeared in the leading accounting and psychology journals, and has been funded by the AICPA and KPMG Peat Marwick Research foundation. He is the current editor of the Journal of Accounting Literature. He is also interested in improving governance in transitional democracies. His monograph on the use of criminal law to uphold the Fiduciary Role of Public Officers has been published by the Ghana Center for Democratic Development.

Professor and Associate Chair of Industrial & Systems Engineering

Professor Geunes’ research interests lie in manufacturing and logistics systems analysis and design, including distribution systems that support the efficient delivery of product variety and value. At the University of Florida, he has taught Supply Chain Management and Analysis and Production & Inventory Control.

From 1990 to 1992 Dr. Geunes worked for AT&T as a Network Development Project Manager managing the phases of design, development, testing and deployment of 800 services offering new technologies to major business customers. He also worked for Bell of Pennsylvania, Metropolitan Edison, and McNeil Consumer Products Company. He is currently the associate editor ofDecision Sciences and is Logistics and Inventory Systems Area Editor for Computers & Industrial Engineering.

John Banko is a lecturer of Finance at the Warrington College of Business at the University of Florida. He held both faculty and administrative positions at the University of Florida, Northern Illinois University, and the University of Central Florida. He currently serves on board for the Southwest Finance Association, and his research has appeared in the Journal of Business, Financial Management, and Managerial Finance.

At the University of Florida, Professor Banko teaches graduate courses in Debt Portfolio Management, Advanced Corporate Finance, and Active Portfolio Management. He also teaches a CFA® Level I Review Course and other finance courses at the undergraduate level. Dr. Banko has presented and discussed numerous papers at professional meetings. He also serves as an ad hoc reviewer for academic journals.

Professor and Chair of Industrial & Systems Engineering

Professor Hartman’s research interests are in dynamic optimization with applications in financial engineering and logistics. He has taught courses in engineering economics, production and logistics, probability and statistics, computer programming, and networks and graphs. He recently published a textbook in engineering economics.

Dr. Hartman previously served as the Kledaras Endowed Chair and Department Chair of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Lehigh University before joining the UF faculty in 2007. He was also a visiting professor in the Management Science group at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. He is a licensed professional engineer.

Professor Alba’s research focuses on various aspects of consumer knowledge, decision making, brand equity, product design, and pricing. His teaching focuses on marketing strategy, new product development, and information processing. He is a past President of the Association of Consumer Research and a former associate editor of the Journal of Consumer Research.

Professor Kraft has been Dean at the University of Florida since 1990. He was Dean at Arizona State University from 1986 to 1990. Professor Kraft was a Brookings Institution Economic Policy Fellow from 1970 to 1973. In addition, he has held positions at several federal agencies such as the Department of Energy, Department of Housing and Urban Affairs, Department of Interior, Price Commission, and National Science Foundation. A member of the Board of Directors of Beta Gamma Sigma, Professor Kraft has also served on the Board of Directors of Citibank of Arizona, Greyhound Financial Corporation (a subsidiary of the Greyhound-Dial Corporation), and Kroy, Inc.
