UF ISE PhD student Roger L. Zhan has been awarded Honorable Mention in the UPS-SOLA Dissertation Award competition at the INFORMS conference, Seattle, 2007, for his paper "Models and Algorithms for Reliable Facility Location Problems and System Reliability Optimization".
ISE graduate and President of the Land and Armaments group of BAE Systems, Linda Hudson, was named the 43rd most powerful woman in business by Fortune Magazine.
Sergiy Butenko, Ph.D. graduate of 2003, won a Young Investigator Program (YIP) Award from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research. He is on the faculty of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Texas A&M University.ISE graduate and President of the Land and Armaments group of BAE Systems, Linda Hudson, discusses leadership in a recent interview with the New York Times.
ISE graduate (PhD 2003) Gang (Derek) Chen and his Barclays Capital team has been named to the "2009 All-America Fixed Income Research Team" as the 2nd best analyst in the MBS/Prepayments category by Institutional Investor. Chen has been with Barclays Capital as a strategist in Mortgage Backed Securities (MBS) in New York City since March 2006.
ISE Alumnus Ralph Aleman delivered a keynote address on healthcare and industrial engineering at the IIE Annual Conference in June of 2009 at Miami, Florida. Aleman is CEO of Hialeah Hospital, a 378-bed acute-care facility in Hialeah, Florida.Ph.D. program alumnus Reha Uzsoy has been named the inaugural Clifton A. Anderson Distinguished Professor in the Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at North Carolina State University.
UF ISE PhD student Bala Vaidyanathan has won the Annual Graduate Student Paper Contest by Transportation Research Forum (TRF) for his paper, "Multi-Commodity Network Flow Based Approaches for the Railroad Crew Scheduling Problem." He will be presenting this paper at the next TRF Meeting in Boston, March 15-17, 2007.
UF ISE Alumna Erin Wallace, Senior VP of Operations with Walt Disney World, was honored with the 2006 IIE "Medallion Award" bestowed on those have made a notable impact on the industrial engineering profession through exceptional leadership, creative works, innovative educational, materials, and significant contribution on productivity through industrial engineering methods.
UF ISE Alumnus and former faculty member Dr. Louis A. Martin-Vega has been named dean of the College of Engineering at North Carolina State University, effective Aug. 7.ISE Alumnus Roger B. Broderick, a developer from Pinellas Park, Florida has provided a $100,000 endowment for the department
