These effective working relationships with the utilities help ensure that there is no duplication of services between the utilities and the UF IAC.

Electric and gas utility companies in Florida are required to conduct energy audits for residential customers. They also typically offer audit services to commercial customers. However, there are few utility audit services provided to small and medium-sized manufacturing companies. Large industrial customers usually have someone on their staff who is an energy cost control person, and also these large customers are generally helped by their utilities in order to keep them as satisfied customers. This leaves a gap in service provided to the smaller manufacturing companies that cannot command the attention of the utilities.
