The University of Florida is a land grant institution
of 35,000 students which traces its beginnings to 1853. It is one
of three universities which offers its students virtually all professional
degree programs on one campus. The University has 20 colleges and
schools, and more than 100 interdisciplinary research, education
and service centers, bureaus, and institutes.

Students at the University of Florida may choose from 114 majors
in 52 undergraduate degree programs and 76 doctoral programs. The
University is one of the nation's 25 largest, is ranked among the
top 50 research universities by the Carnegie Commission, and is
a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities.
A distinguished faculty of 2,500 attracted more than 134 million
dollars in research and training grants in 1987-88. Such scope provides
