FAQ for Prospective Ph.D. Degree Students

  1. What is the availability of financial aid?
The department offers a limited number of assistantships each year. Assistantships are quite competitive and are awarded based on past academic performance and achievements, and are awarded to students beginning the program in a Fall semester. Prospective Ph.D. level students that are admitted without assistantship are expected to have the resources to finance their graduate education. Email requests for assistantships made directly to faculty members are typically unsuccessful.

  2. What are the requirements for admission?
Admissions decisions are made by the Graduate Committee based on a number of factors including past academic performance, GRE scores (Quantitative, Analytical, and Verbal sections), letters of recommendation, the student's statement of purpose, and the TOEFL score (if required). Please do not request a preliminary assessment of your qualifications for admission, since we cannot provide such pre-qualification. Click here for more information.

  3. How do I obtain application materials?
    Please see www2.ise.ufl.edu/grad/admissions.asp.

  4. How long does the admissions process take?
The admissions process can take several months depending on various factors. It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that all appropriate materials are forwarded to the graduate school and the department. The earlier the graduate school and department receive all application materials, the quicker the process will proceed. International students should apply at least nine months prior to the Fall semester for Fall admission and at least six months prior to Spring semester for Spring admission. Domestic students should apply at least six months prior to Fall semester and 4 months prior to Spring semester. We do not admit graduate students for beginning their graduate program in Summer semesters.

  5. How do I check my admission status?
You can check the status of your application with the graduate school or with our program specialist, Ms. Cynthia Blunt at . Please allow sufficient time for a response due to the volume of applications we receive.
