Dr. Diane A. Schaub is the director of the Industrial Assessment Center, a program which performs in-depth assessment of small manufacturing plant sites: its facilities, services and manufacturing operations. These assessments refer to a process which involves a thorough examination of potential savings from:
energy efficiency improvements,
waste minimization and pollution prevention, and
productivity improvement.
Assessments are performed by local teams of engineering faculty and students from 26 participating universities across the country. This is a great free service for manufacturers and creates an excellent learning experience for students.
The assessment begins with a university-based IAC team conducting a survey of the eligible plant, followed by a one or two day site visit, taking engineering measurements as a basis for assessment recommendations. The team then performs a detailed analysis for specific recommendations with related estimates of costs, performance and payback times.
Dr. Schaub is an Association of Energy Engineers certified energy manager (CEM), an American Society for Quality certified quality engineer and manager (CQE and CQM) and a Six Sigma Black Belt. Besides her Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Arizona State University, she has a Masters of Science in Business Administration from Indiana University Northwest and a Bachelors of Science in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.
