UF ISE hosts SURF Students

UF ISE will be hosting Jessica Gonzalez (top) and Xaimarie Hernandez (bottom) during the Summer Undergraduate Research at Florida (SURF) 2017 Cohort. The program will last from May 29th to August 4th.  Both young ladies are pursuing their Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez.

The SURF program entails a 10-week Summer Undergraduate Research experience at UF and provides the opportunity to work with a premier, faculty adviser and a senior, PhD student-mentor. Students will engage in research and spend time furthering their path to applying and enrolling in a PhD program at UF. Participants receive preferred PhD admission and fellowship offers, provided they have a successful summer experience and maintain their level of high academic performance through the completion of their bachelor’s degree.  Costs, including room and some board, a $5,000 summer stipend, round-trip flights/mileage to Gainesville, summer workshops, social events/activities and a GRE test prep course are paid for by UF.
