Professor Ahuja specializes in mathematical modeling, state-of-the-art network optimization techniques, and solving large-scale scheduling problems arising in logistics and transportation. He has developed innovative models and algorithms for several airline scheduling, railroad scheduling, and logistics problems that were previously considered intractable.

Professor Ahuja has contributed both to theory and applications and his contributions have received highly competitive awards. He is a recipient of (i) Lanchester Prize in 1993 given to the best publication of the year in Operations Research; (ii) Pierskella Award in 2003 given to the best applications of Operations Research and Management Science in Health Applications; and (iii) Daniel H. Wagner Prize in 2006 for Excellence in Operations Research Practice.

Professor Ahuja has written the graduate-level text and reference book, Network Flows: Theory, Algorithms, and Applications, jointly with J.B. Orlin (MIT), and T.L. Magnanti (MIT), winner of 1993 Lanchester Prize. He has also written books of developing decision support systems which will bring greater level of information technology skills within the Industrial Engineering and Operations Research Curriculum. These books are: “Developing Spreadsheet-Based Decision Support Systems,” jointly with M.M.H. Seref (Univ. of Florida), and W.L. Winston (Indiana Univ.); and “Developing Web-Enabled Decision Support Systems,” jointly with A.A. Pol (Univ. of Florida). Professor Ahuja is also an Associate Editor of the three prestigious journals: Operations Research, Transportation Science, and Networks.

Professor Ahuja is also the President & CEO of Innovative Scheduling, Inc., a company he founded to develop cutting-edge web-enabled decision support systems for large-scale scheduling problems arising in logistics and transportation.
