Icebreaker (top)
Attendees from various schools get a chance to meet
one another in a fun and interactive way. Conference participants will
eat a light meal accompanied by opening comments from the University of
Florida chapter.
Technical Paper Competition
(top)
Competition participants will present their papers
to a panel of distinguished judges in the field of Industrial
Engineering. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top presentations and
the overall winner will receive an invitation to present at the National
IIE Conference later in the year.
Judges – We are
looking for judges who are familiar with core industrial engineering
practices, especially subjects such as work design and human factors,
facilities design, material handling, operations research, simulations,
and supply chain management.
Lunches and Dinners
(top)
Throughout the conference we will host several
lunches and dinners where conference participants can sit down for a
social meal. Based on a company’s level of sponsorship, a certain
number of tables will be “sponsored” by that company. We are planning
on having a speaker at every hosted meal.
Speakers – One of
the ways companies can help with this conference is to provide speakers
for our lunches and dinners. A typical speaker should have extensive
experience working as a manager, consultant, engineer, or any possible
career path of an industrial engineer. A speaker does not have to hold
a degree in industrial engineering, but should be able to offer advice
concerning career choice, management techniques, mentoring, or general
engineering practices. Graduates from the University of Florida and
members of IIE are desirable, but not required.
Photo Scavenger Hunt
(top)
Conference attendants become acclimated with the
University of Florida campus and learn about the university’s history.
Workshops
(top)
Brief interactive discussions sponsored by
companies providing representatives. Corporate representatives will
present on their choice of a wide variety of topics related to the field
of industrial and systems engineering.
Workshop facilitators
– We are searching for workshop facilitators from industry. A
facilitator should be able to lead a workshop that focuses on a key
industrial engineering tool or subject matter. Such topics may include
lean manufacturing, six sigma, simulations, supply chain management,
statistical software packages, design of experiments, and ethics.
Wine and Cheese Social
(top)
This is an opportunity for students, faculty, and
corporate representatives to network in a relaxed setting.
Company/Student Panel
(top)
A panel comprised of the region’s student leaders
will reverse roles with the companies. Instead of having the students
ask companies what they look for in an industrial engineer, the
companies will ask the students what they look for when deciding “Where
do I fit in the corporate puzzle?”
Job Fair
(top)
The job fair will be a career fair only for
industrial and systems engineers. This event will allow the students
attending the conference to speak in an informal setting to the
corporate sponsors and learn more about companies in which they are
interested.
Dinner
and Awards Banquet (top)
Highlighted by our keynote speaker, this
professional-attire banquet is a way for the University of Florida
chapter of IIE to wrap up the conference with a formal dinner and
presentation of various awards given throughout the conference.
Keynote speaker –
We are looking for a high profile speaker who can help bring a
successful conference to a close. The keynote speaker should satisfy
the speaker criteria mentioned above.
